What is the Circle of Champions Network?

What is the Circle of Champions Network?

The Circle of Champions Network helps students identify the natural cheerleaders in their lives, to bring them in as their Champions.

The network facilitates relationships between students and their Champions, creating an environment where students feel a greater sense of support on their academic journeys.

Converting Social Capital into Academic Capital

First-gen students are surrounded by people who love them, but these individuals often have no experience navigating academia.

The Circle of Champions Network teaches Champions how to play a more active role in their student's journey, converting social capital into academic capital.

College to Career

The Circle of Champions Network embraces a complete journey from college to career.

Students receive help in achieving critical milestones along this complete pathway. Conversations between students and champions are contextualized around achievement of these milestones.

Partnerships

The Circle of Champions Network is constructed through partnerships with colleges, universities, and individual faculty.

Students, faculty, college personnel, champions, and JourneyGPS staff populate and activate the Network.

What Problem Are We Working to Solve?

Inequity in Professions

Nearly all professions in the U.S. are over-represented by historically privileged communities.

Marginalized groups continue to be disproportionately represented in America's professional class. This creates power and income inequality throughout American society.

Inequity in Professions

For example, African Americans are underrepresented in 10 out of 11 professional categories in the U.S., while Hispanic communities are underrepresented in 11 out of 11!

The Role Higher Education Plays

Higher education has successfully made access to college equitable; however, inequity persists regarding access to highly ranked universities, enrollment in highly employable degrees, graduation rates, and career placement.

The Circle of Champions Network was established to help close these persistent equity gaps
